See what 'Closing the Gap', an educational site has to say about ThoughtManager and the Dana!

Designed for a variety of educational uses, ThoughtManager for Education is a powerful Palm OS tool for teachers and students. Now compatible with Aphasmart's new Dana device, which has an extra-wide screen and built-in keyboard, ThoughtManager is even more versatile. Use it for: outlining content for reading and writing (with nine levels of hierarchical categorizing), taking notes, gathering research, scaffolding writing, and organizing the loads of information involved in teaching and learning.

Below you will find a number of sample screens from ThoughtManager for Education on a Dana device. Click here for a complete list of ThoughtManager outlines included in the full version

READING: Use TME on the Dana to build comprehension habits and reinforce content learning.

You can transform many popular pre-, during-, and post-reading strategies into better-organized learning tools on the Dana.

Outline both narrative and expository texts.

Have students read on the Dana and interact with the texts by inserting their own thoughts. This active reading builds academic comprehension habits.

Students can keep track of their active thoughts and organize them for discussion or for writing.

Pre-reading of content material in textbooks and articles  is vital for struggling readers. Use the Dana to systematically build pre-reading skills and habits

Instead of loose and lost vocabulary cards, students can easily manage their "cards" on the Dana. They just keep duplicating the item template and add new words. Several thousand will fit...wouldn't that be nice to see?

Writing: Use TME on the Dana to organize thoughts and ideas for writing.

The hierarchical outlining capabilities of ThoughtManager provide an ideal tool for gathering and classifying research information before writing reports and articles.

A scaffold outline such as this one provides needed support for English learners and other struggling writers who need a little nudge to understand and construct coherent paragraphs that contain appropriate sentences and evidence.

Persuasive thinking and writing is one of the most challenging (and tested) genres of expression in upper grades. This outline (which you can easily modify and even turn into a template) helps students to build the habits of supporting their opinions and making concessions when discussing controversial issues.

Some students need some academic language support in the form of writing frames that we eventually take away when students become more proficient. You can easily add to or change these frames, as needed.

At the tap of a fingernail students can quickly bring up any kind of checklist needed to make sure their work is meeting high standards.

Student Resources: ThoughtManager comes with many helpful resource outlines that can be adapted to meet your specific needs.

Students can have a handy storehouse of word with multiple meanings, to which they can easily add when they encounter new ones.

Always have ideas available such graphic organizers in the Graphic Organizers resource outline: story map, literal-figurative diagram, question levels, etc.

Questions of the day (which can be turned into a checklist) is helpful when students need interesting topics for writing or for discussion.
