Getting Started

PhoneLog is designed to help you manage your phone calls in a number of ways. With PhoneLog, you can create a list of people to call back, a record of conversations regarding a particular subject, a log of phone numbers called to compare against your bill, and lots more. In fact, PhoneLog can be used to track meetings, emails, and other kinds of contacts.

This chapter gives you an overview of PhoneLog, and describes specific setup procedures which will let you get the most out of PhoneLog.

List View

The list view gives you an overview of all the calls you have entered. The menu at the top of the screen lets you filter your call list by category, and the menu at the bottom of the screen lets you view your calls as a list, or by subject, type, or contact.

List View Screen

Check boxes next to each call let you check off calls that require some kind of action on your part, like calling someone back. The check boxes also let you specify what calls you want to purge.

Edit View

The Edit View allows you to add and edit phone calls. To get to the Edit View, tap the New button to add a log, or tap on an item in the List View to edit it.

Edit View Screen

You can specify the type of contact, the name, company and phone number of the person contacted, the subject of the conversation, the details of your conversation, and whether the call should be protected by your system password. The date and time are automatically entered. And, you can time the call by pressing the Start button.

Default Phone Button

You can set up your PalmPilot to show PhoneLog when you press the Phone Book button on your PalmPilot. If you tend to log most of your calls, this will give you fast access to PhoneLog and save you time. If you set up your PalmPilot this way, you can still quickly get to your built-in Phone Book by simply pressing your Phone Book button a second time.

To set PhoneLog to be your default Phone Book application, tap on your applications icon, then tap on the Prefs application. Once the Prefs application has started choose Buttons from the popup menu in the upper right corner. You will see the following screen:

Button Preferences

Tap on the drop down menu next to the phone icon, and choose PhoneLog from the list that pops-up.

That is all there is to it! Test it out by pressing the Phone Book button. PhoneLog should start. Now press the Phone Book button again. The built-in Phone Book will start. You can press the Phone Book button again to switch back to PhoneLog.

Auto Popup

When you create a new phone call by tapping the New button, PhoneLog will normally automatically popup the phone list from your Phone Book, allowing you to choose who the phone call is from or for. If you would prefer to not use this feature, you may turn it off by choosing Preferences from the Options menu and turning it off.

Preferences

Quickfill

When you enter text into the name or company fields of the Edit View, PhoneLog will look up the text you enter and try to fill in the rest of the information.

If you have a lot of phone numbers and addresses in your address book, the time it takes to look up a name may be too long. You can turn off this behavior by unchecking the Quickfill check box in the preferences screen.

Name Order

You may show and sort your names in the List View by first name or by last name. Select your preference from the Name Order drop-down list by tapping on the down arrow next to the Name Order: label in the Preferences screen.

Lists Show

Many of the different sorting options in the list view can show either the subject of a call, or show the phone number called. Choose your preference from the Lists Show drop-down list in the Preferences screen.
