(East Palo Alto, Calif.) December 4, 1997. Hands High Software, a publisher of personal productivity software for the PalmPilot platform, today announced the release of AirMiles, the first software to track airline
frequent flyer miles and awards for the 3Com PalmPilot connected organizer and the IBM WorkPad PC Companion.
AirMiles 1.0 for the PalmPilot platform allows travelers to enter their miles right when they earn them,
reconcile them to their statements, and track their progress to the next free ticket or award. AirMiles is designed to prevent lost miles caused by administrative mistakes by the airline programs, and to provide up to the
minute information so travelers can choose which airline, which rental car, or which hotel will get them to an award the fastest.
"The ever changing complexity of frequent flyer awards and the seemingly endless ways to
earn points and miles, almost require the assistance of a program like AirMiles ," explains beta tester Anthony DeNardo.
"With AirMiles, I can track all of my travel awards for flights, car rentals, hotels, credit cards, phone calls, restaurants, etc. And then, since AirMiles consolidates all of my frequent flyer accounts in one place, I can quickly reconcile all my frequent flyer statements."
"AirMiles is a great example of how developers can add functionality to the PalmPilot platform and meet specific needs of both consumers and mobile professionals," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances
and platform development. "We have seen a lot of demand for the personal productivity products that Hands High Software provides."
To enter points, the user chooses the airline program from a menu, and then choose
the source of the miles, whether from a flight, credit car, car rental, hotel, phone company, etc. The user then enters the number of points, and any comments he or she wants to add. Bonus points are computed automatically as
well as an expiration period.
Two reports are available from a menu. The Mileage Report shows the number of points that will expire in each year, the awards earned, and balances so that the user can strategize when and
how to earn the next award. The Flight Report shows mileage and segments related only to actual flights. Many airline flight programs give bonus points, upgrades, and special services when a traveler reaches a predetermined
number of flight miles and segments.
AirMiles for the PalmPilot organizer is available for $29.95. Customers can purchase AirMiles online through the BuyDirect web site (http://www.buydirect.com) and can download a free
trial version from the Hands High Software web site (http://www.handshigh.com/). AirMiles is also featured on the new Rosenbluth® International PalmPilot Traveler web site
(http://www.rosenbluth.com/business/palmpilot.html). AirMiles is compatible with all PalmPilot organizers, the IBM WorkPad PC Companion , and the Franklin Quest.
