Hands High
Software, Inc. Releases Slap
New Software for the Palm OS that Quickly Converts Notes to
Appointments, Address Book Entries, Tasks and More
East Palo Alto, Calif. Sept. 25, 2002 Ð Hands High Software, Inc.
announced today the release of Slapª, software for the Palm OS that quickly
converts notes to appointments, address book entries, tasks and more.
Many handheld computer users find that organizing appointments, address
book entries, tasks and other information while simultaneously talking to
people in a meeting or on the phone is too difficult. The number of programs to
start and screens to navigate makes the process cumbersome. Instead, many
people use a pencil and paper, or Òsticky notesÓ to take notes, and then
re-enter the information to the handheld computer later. The result is a
clutter of papers, and no organization.
Slap solves the problem by giving the handheld user one screen to enter
notes. The screen is accessible by pushing one button. The user can enter
appointments, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, task lists and more
into one screen in the same way as entering information onto a piece of paper.
Later, to organize the information, the user selects it and taps an icon to
send it to another application. Slap will interpret the text selected, and make
the entry into the program selected.
For example, a user could enter ÒMeeting with Bob on Thursday at 4.Ó To
turn this into an appointment, the user would tap on the date book icon. Slap
would then show a screen that reads ÒMeeting with Bob.Ó The date and time would
automatically be set to the date of the next Thursday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The
user could then enter the appointment by tapping one button. At this point, the
date book would appear with the given appointment highlighted, allowing the
user to quickly and easily make any further edits to the appointment. Returning
to the Slap program is as easy as pressing one button.
Beta tester Ellen Biggs said that Slap saves her one to two hours per
day. ÒI do not have to recopy notes and put them in the computer, I do not
have to sort out papers at the end of the day. Everything needs to be written
only once.Ó
Slap can send information to the address book, date book, task list,
memo pad, ThoughtManager, and Doc file readers. Slap includes a plug-in
interface so that developers of other products can build in support for Slap in
their products and receive Slap text.
Slap requires Palm OS 3.0 or above and 150 KB free space. It supports
the high resolution modes of the Sony Clie and Palm OS 5 computers. It also
supports the expandable screens of some Clie models, the Handera 330 and the
AlphaSmart Dana.
A free 30-day trial of Slap can be downloaded from the Hands High
Software Web site (http://www.handshigh.com/).
The registered version can be purchased for $12.95 also from the Hands High
Software Web site.
