How do I edit the cars list?
|
| |
You may track mileage for up to 16 cars in Trip. To set up your car list, start Trip on your Palm device, tap Palm's silk-screen "Menu" button. On newer Palms, this is the button that is directly below the "House" button. You would then choose "Edit Cars..." from the menu.
Note that you have a default car called "Car". The first thing you should do is rename this car to the name you want to use for your car.
To change the name of a car, tap the name of the car, then tap the Edit button. When you rename a car, that cars name will change on all the trips that are associated with that car.
To create another car, tap the New button. Enter the name of the car you want to create.
To delete a car, tap the delete button. Whenever you delete a car, all the trips that are associated with that car are permanently deleted, so use this option with care. If you delete the last car, a new car will automatically be created with the default name of "Car" so that there is always at least one car in the program. Back to the top |

I can't delete the 'Car' entry from the car list.
|
| |
That's right. Trip needs at least one car, so instead of deleting 'Car', rename it to something else. Back to the top |

I want to start over. How do I delete all the trips related to one car?
|
| |
Simply choose 'Edit Cars' from the Options menu, and delete the car you want. You will be asked to confirm it, then all trips for that particular car will be deleted. Another way is to use the Purge command from the Options menu. Back to the top |

Can Trip calculate gas mileage?
|
| |
Trip is not set up to calculate gas mileage automatically. If you really want to, you can record gallons/liters in the description field, and use the calculator to add up the gallons, then divide by the total miles displayed. Not perfect, but it will get you most of the way there. Back to the top |

How do I get information from Trip or PhoneLog onto my desktop (and Excel)? |
| |
Do the following:
1. Tap the menu button when looking at the list of records, and choose "Export to MemoPad" from the options menu.
Your information will be in a memo now in the "Untitled" category.
2. HotSync
3. Open your desktop program and select the memo.
If you are using Excel, you can do the following to import into Excel:
1. Copy the contents of your memo
2. Go to Excel and choose Paste.
Your information will be pasted into the spreadsheet. If all the information shows up in one column, choose "Text to Columns" from the Excel menu and follow the instructions. When asked what character to use to determine what the column should be, type the "," character (a comma). After you finish the wizard, you information will line up correctly, and the next time you copy and paste, you will not have to use the wizard. Back to the top |

I see the Address name in my Address book, but when I enter Trip or PhoneLog and tap the Arrow in the "Who:" field (Trip) or I tap the arrow next to the name (PhoneLog, the address name does not show up. Why? |
| |
You need to enter a phone number for that addressee in the Address book. There is a problem with the built-in address book program that hides this information. Back to the top |

I installed the registered version, but my product is still telling me that it is a trial version. |
| |
Possible Causes:
1) You are installing the wrong file, and may be accidently installing the trial version instead of the registered version.
2) Something is interfering with your HotSync.
Things to Try to Solve the Problem:
Verify that you are installing the registered version. Delete all other .prc files from your computer, download the REGISTERED version (not the trial), install again and HotSync.
Decompress the file
If your file ends with ".zip", ".exe" or ".hqx", you must decompress the file to install your file.
If the file ends with ".zip", you must use a program like WinZip , PKZip or Stuffit Expander to decompress the file on Windows, or ZipIt on the Macintosh. Note that Stuffit Expander is a free product.
If the file ends with ".exe" it is a self extracting Windows program. Simply double-click on the file in Windows and the program will ask you where you want to save the decompressed file. This will only work on Windows.
If the file ends with ".hqx", it is a Macintosh file and you must use Stuffit Expander to decompress the file . If you then get a file that ends with ".sea", double-click on that file, as this type of file is a self-extracting Macintosh file. Note that Stuffit Expander is a free product.
PalmPilot applications end with ".prc" and templates end with ".pdb". This is the file you should install with the Palm Install Tool.
Use Palm Install Tool
To install Palm applications, you must use the Palm Install Tool (InstApp in version 2 of the desktop) that came with your Palm device and is located in your Palm directory. Start the Palm Install Tool and drag the .prc file to the window. Do not try to double-click on the .prc file.
Make Room
Verify that you have enough room in your Palm device for the program. Tap the Memory application on your PalmPilot to find out how much room you have. Remember to leave some extra room so the new application can save information on your PalmPilot.
To figure out how much memory you will need, simply find the size of the ".prc" file or ".pdb" file you are trying to install. It will be the same size as that required to install.
Other Clues
Your desktop computer saves a log of the installation process. To see this log, choose "View Log..." from the HotSync menu. Look for error messages that will tell you what is wrong.
If All Else Fails
Send the content of your HotSync log to support@handshigh.com. Back to the top |

Will your products work in FLASH? |
| |
Flash memory is a form of non-volatile memory that was found in some earlier Palm devices (Palm V and earlier), and which you could get to using products like JackFlash. All products except for ThoughtManager can be loaded into FLASH. In order for the programs to work properly, you will need to load them into RAM, open them, then move them into FLASH.

After installing, I still have the trial version installed on my palm! What do I do? |
| |
If your installing from an EXE file (todoplus.exe, memoplus.exe, tripdlx.exe, etc...), you will find a copy of your Palm program installed in a directory in your computer.
The default paths are as follows:
C:\Program Files\Hands High Software\MemoPLUS\memoplus.prc
C:\Program Files\Hands High Software\ThoughtMan\Thoughtmanager.prc
C:\Program Files\Hands High Software\ToDoPLUS\todoplus.prc
C:\Program Files\Trip\Trip.prc - this is the same path for TripDeluxe also.
Simply double-click on the ".prc" file (memoplus.prc, todoplus.prc, etc.) to load into the Palm Install Tool, then hotsync.
The install gives you an option to copy the files in other locations, so your path may be different.

I got a new handheld. How do I transfer all of my programs and information? |
| |
All the information should restore to your Palm when you hotsync the new one. There are three very important things to follow to make sure all of your old stuff gets on to your new handheld:
1.) Hotsync your old Palm one last time.
Reason: To make sure all your data is current.
2.) You install the new Palm Desktop software into the same directory that you installed the old Palm Desktop software.
Reason: There is a backup directory in the Palm folder (more precisely, Palm\username\backup) that stores most of the programs and data of programs you installed into the Palm, including your preferences file. Also, all of your core info (ToDo List, MemoPad AddressBook Datebook) is located in your Palm directory (each in their own folders, in your Palm\username directory).
3.) You MUST use the same Palm username you previously used.
Reason: All your data is located under your username. This shouldn't be much of an issue, since there is no username assigned to a new Palm device. Simply slip in the cradle (after installing all the appropriate software) and press the hotsync button. It will ask you if you would like to use a former username or create a new one, you will want to use the former username. Doing so should install all of the programs and data that was previously on your old palm onto the new one.
