Hands High Software
WiFile Pro

Network file management for your Palm OS handheld computer!

WiFile Solutions Guide

Compatible Devices

These devices and configurations are recommended ways of connecting your device to a networked computer. Generally, if you are using a phone device, you should also use VPN software, since it allows you to securely connect to a computer that is behind a firewall. We do not recommend directly connecting Windows computers with shared directories to the Internet.

WiFi devices and Bluetooth devices generally do not need VPN software to connect to computers that are on the local network. However, many corporations are setting up WiFi hubs throughout their buildings, and putting these hubs outside the corporate firewall. In this situation, you will need to get VPN software to connect to the corporate computers with WiFile Pro. Ask your systems administrator for the kind of VPN software you need, and see below for a description of the types of VPN software that will work with WiFile Pro.

Software Solutions

VPN Software

VPN Software lets you tunnel through a firewall to connect to a computer through the Internet. In other words, if your device can connect to the Internet, and the computer you want to connect to can also connect to the Internet, you can link the two together no matter where you are in the world. This is great if you have a phone, or you are using a WiFi device in a place with a HotSpot (like Starbucks).

VPNs used to be just for big corporations, but now even small businesses and homes are using them. From most computer stores, you can buy low-cost routers that combine everything into one box, including a VPN bridgeable firewall, network switch, and 802.11 a/b/g access. However, the hard part is setting up a VPN server.
