ZD PalmPilot Software Awards
Honors New PalmPilot Software as Among Most Creative
and Innovative Programs Written Anywhere
SAN FRANCISCO/NEW YORK, January 25, 1999 -- Ziff-DavisI (NYSE: ZD) popular
online and print brands ZDNet and PC Magazine today jointly announced the winners of the first annual ZD PalmPilot Software Library Awards, honoring the best software programs designed for the leading hand-held computing
device.
The ten best PalmPilot software titles of the year -- selected from finalists in ten different categories -- are honored in ZDNetIs popular
Software Library (http://www.hotfiles.com), as well as in broader feature articles in the Feb. 23rd issue of PC Magazine and on the PC Magazine Web site (http://www.pcmag.com). From the ten winning programs, one title --
Actioneer v2.0.1 by Actioneer Technologies Corp. -- won the ultimate "Program of the Year" award.
"This year, some of the most creative and innovative software written
anywhere was created for the PalmPilot and Palm III, prompting us to establish our first category-specific awards event," said Preston Gralla,
executive editor of the ZDNet Software Library. "Whether you're looking for utilities, productivity, gaming or travel software, you'll find the
best titles here. We applaud the hard work of PalmPilot and Palm III developers everywhere."
"We were impressed by the quality and variety of PalmPilot and Palm III
software that is now available," said Michael Miller, senior vice president and editor-in-chief of PC Magazine. "We found terrific software titles,
guaranteed to elevate PalmPilot products to a new level of usability."
Presented with reviews from ZD editors, all of the award-winning software programs were chosen from ZDNetIs PalmPilot Software Library (
http://www.palmpilotsoftware.com), a collection of more than 1,000 downloadable programs that enable owners to customize their PalmPilot devices for their individual needs.
